John Bowers

I am a senior undergraduate student in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have been programming computers for 10 years. I worked for 2 years as a database driven website developer for Liquifusion Studios and another 2 years as a Java developer for Marquis Software Development. My current work at the Computer Vision Lab at FSU consists of discretization and application of theoretical shape models (using C++ and MATLAB) and engineering and design of stereo reconstruction applications (using Java).

I code using several langauges including C/C++, Java, Objective-C, MATLAB, Python, ColdFusion, PHP, ActionScript, and SQL (to name a few).

research

I am currently working on discretization and experimental validiation of certain shape models. I recently completed engineering a stereo reconstruction applicatiton that used a stereo camera and a consumer projector to capture 3D data from real world objects.

other interests

I love rock climbing. You can find me many evenings clinging to the wall at the Tallahassee Rock Gym. I've climbed at Boat Rock, on the Cumberland Gap Trail, and in La Foret de Fontainebleau.

I also really enjoy cycling. I am a member of the Florida State Cycling Team.

I am an Anglican and I am interested in missions. My wife Katherine and I are currently planning to live in Uganda for the 2008-2009 school year. I will be working on building computer systems for local hospitals and Katherine will be working on teaching in local schools and translating children's literature into local languages.
